Robert
Braden House
The Village of Waterford began its history around 1733 when Amos and Mary Janney, members of the Society of Friends (Quakers) purchased 400 acres along Catoctin Creek. Mr. Janney constructed a grist mill and sawmill on the creek in the early 1740's. The settlement that grew up around the mill was known as Janneys Mill. During the 1700's more land was added and more residents built homes and established shops. By 1790 the growing village was renamed Waterford. Most of the homes were built by the first quarter of the 19th century. The Robert Braden house was built between 1816 and 1820. The Waterford Foundation was established in 1943 to preserve the history and int integrity of the homes and surrounding lands. For more information on the village and the Waterford Foundation you may go directly to their website: www.waterfordva.org. Entry into the home off of the wrap-a-round porch is
through lovely double Victorian doors. A wonderful staircase and bay
window accent this inviting area. Throughout the home are beautiful
hardwood floors, wide base board molding, period lighting fixtures,
plaster walls and antique cabinetry. The home has three fully finished
levels and numerous staircases leading to the second level and charming
garret.
There are three/four bedrooms and four full baths. Three fireplaces add to the homes character. Off of the charming kitchen are a beautiful butler pantry and light filled breakfast area which leads to the screened porch. The home has a 4-zone central air-conditioning system and hot water radiator heat. The parcel also contains a carriage house, formerly known as Comphers Barn, which was built circa 1890. The current owners have completely rebuilt the stone foundation of the barn and are preparing the lower area for garage space. The large upper level would make a great office. Architectural drawings are available if the prospective buyer wishes to complete the ren renovation of the second level. Location: The Historic Village of Waterford is located approximately fifteen minutes from Leesburg in Loudoun County. Dulles International airport is 35 minutes via the convenient Dulles Greenway.
