The unincorporated village of Aldie, Virginia was laid out in 1810 by Charles Fenton Mercer. He named it for his Scottish clan home “Castle Aldie.” Aldie Mill 1807, survives as Virginia’s only known gristmill powered by two overshot water wheels. This Historic District was the birth place of General Stonewall Jackson’s mother, Julia Beckwith Neale. The village was the site of the Civil War “Battle of Aldie.” “Mill Race,” this charming home on 2.83
acres, 25 minutes from Dulles and 45 minutes from Washington, D.C., was built in 1914. The design and feeling is Federal with high ceilings, beautiful moldings and many fine mantels throughout.
